System requirements

In order to have EGene running in your computer, please check the system requirements below:
  • Platforms
  • EGene was designed to run on Unix/Linux operating systems. Tested platforms and operating systems include Compaq Alpha Tru64 UNIX version 5.1, SunOS 5.8 and PC/Linux from Red Hat 7.1, Mandrake 10 and Debian 3 distributions.

  • Software
  • EGene system was written in Perl and requires the Perl interpreter, version 5.6.0 or higher (http://www.perl.org), with the GD graphics library (http://www.boutell.com/gd/), DBD::Pg, the PostgreSQL database driver for the DBI module, and DBI, the database independent interface for Perl (http://www.cpan.org).

    Co-Ed graphical configuration tool was written in Java and requires Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE), version 1.4.1 or higher ( http://java.sun.com/j2se/).

    PostgreSQL 7.4.2 (http://www.postgresql.org/) was employed as the database management system and must be installed in your computer if you wish to use the database version of EGene.

    Third-party programs used by EGene modules include the following: BLAST 2.2.6, Phred 0.020425.c, Cross_match 0.990329, Phrap 0.990329, Consed 14.0 and CAP3.
